HISTORY

Villa Barberino, in Meleto, which was a very ancient fortress, is situated in the hills which separate the Valdarno from the Chianti valley. For its strategic position, Villa Barberino, was tied to the republic of Florence, which was struggling against Arezzo. From 1340, Meleto was the main town of "Avane's alliance", a federation of villages near Florence, which had seat in the castle of Barberino. It belonged to the Da Meletos family, the Capponis one, the Alammannis one, who added a mill and many houses which made the structure a rich farm.

In 1824, the structure passed to Filippo Uguccioni, then to Tommaso Uguccioni Gherardi Piccolomini and from 1860 to the Rosselli del Turcos family.
